Letter to My "Father"

Seeing this video, along with other things that capture "father-daughter moments," has triggered a feeling that I've had for a long time. When I view things like this, it reminds me of the fact that this is something I will probably never share with my father. Unfortunately, my dad hasn't always been in my life like some girls' fathers have. I met my dad face to face when I was about 6 or 7. I'll be 20 in about 3 weeks, and I still haven't seen much of him. He and my mother were never married and didn't have any ties, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't have had ties with his daughter either. I'm not here to bash my him, but just to vent and finally let out my feelings on the situation.
I've always wanted to share the moments with my dad that other girls shared with theirs; father-daughter dances, being called a "daddy's girl," having your dad grill the guys you date, having a dad that's over protective, having a father-daughter dance at your wedding, etc. I often wonder what is it about me that makes my dad not "want" me. Is it because he and my mother weren't married? Do I embarrass him? Am I a failure of a person? Am I not good enough to be his daughter? Do I not make him proud? Throughout many times in my life, I have wondered these things but have never been able to find a reasonable answer. I'm a smart 20 year-old young lady with many accomplishments and achievements under her belt, no kids, a job, a car, in college, and just an all-around good person. What in that description should give him a reason to shun me? I just don't understand it.
It's like he doesn't try to reach out to me unless he needs my help with something. In my eyes, I feel like he should reach out to me more because he's the father and he's supposed to be teaching me certain things in life. Am I wrong for thinking that's the way it's supposed to be? He should've been there to teach me about men, how to do certain things, to cheer me on at my basketball games or scholarship/award banquets. But he wasn't. If it weren't for my mother, I would be a wreck. Luckily she raised me to know the essentials in life. I've never just needed the things a father would teach his daughter, but I damn sure wanted those things. But I've gotten along pretty well without him.
I made the basketball team without him; got through my first date without him and never had a guy take advantage of me; I graduated without him; got my first job and car no thanks to him; got plenty of scholarships and an acceptance to a great college without him; and plenty of other stuff. Although this is all good, I still want the little things a father provides for his daughter. I'll never know what it's like to sit in a my daddy's lap or fall asleep in his arms or cry on his shoulder or dance with him at my wedding or even have him walk me down the aisle at my wedding. It's only so much a mother can do. I know it's mostly guys who need their fathers in their lives, but girls do, too.
Luckily, I don't have self-esteem or self-respect issues because of him, but I just often wonder how different my life would have been if my father would have played an active role. I can't tell you the last time I talked to my dad on the phone, or even saw him in person. I just feel like I'm being faulted for something I didn't do or had no control over. The worst thing about all of this, though, is that I will probably never tell my father this. I would love to have a talk with him about all of this, but I just don't know how to put it out there because we don't have that kind of relationship. Besides this blog, these feelings will continue to stay bottled up inside. I've never told this to my mother or anyone, and probably won't.
Before my father or I leave this earth, I would definitely want him to know my feelings about the situation, but unfortunately, I don't believe it would ever happen. If it does, hopefully it will before it's too late and things will get better. Until then, all I can do is put the thoughts in the back of my head and keep on living...

The Return of Da Brat

Since Da Brat was released from prison a few weeks ago, she has been determined to come back strong in the hip hop game. She has began to make her mark again by remixing some of the hottest joints out right now. So far, she has remixed Chris Brown's "Look At Me Now" and YC's "Racks." I must say that Da Brat is definitely creating her buzz again and showing everybody that she's still got it! Although I wasn't really feeling her remix of "Racks" too hard, I'm DEFINITELY into her remix of "Look At Me Now" She murdered Busta's part. Can't wait to hear some new material from her to see if she can come harder. Check out the remixes below:

New Music: Akon f. Chris Brown

Akon and Chris Brown have gotten together to form a song titled "Take It Down Low." The song is produced by Polow Da Don and will be on Akon's fourth studio album, Stadium. The album is set to be released around September of this year. I've listened to this track twice, back to back, and as of now, I don't know exactly how I feel about it just yet. I'm trying to envision if it can be mainstream, and if so, what will the video look like and how will it play out in the clubs. I think it has pretty good potential, though. Maybe upon a few more listenings it'll grow on me. As of now, my feeling toward the song is "Eh...." Check it out below to see how you like it:

Bruno Mars "The Lazy Song"

Singer Bruno Mars, of "Nothing on You" and "Grenade" fame, has released a video for his super laidback third single, "The Lazy Song." The song is on his debut album, "Doo-Wops & Hooligans." The video is very goofy and fun and throughout it, he pretty much does...nothing. The song opens with the lines "Today I don't feel like doing anything. I just wanna lay in my bed. Don't feel like picking up my phone, so leave a message at the tone. 'Cause today I swear I'm not doing anything." This is the ULTIMATE chill song. Get into this y'all! I love it already!

Childrens' Responses to "What is Love?"

These answers are ADORABLE and actually better than some of the answers most adults give. I saw this on Tumblr and had to post this on here to share with you all!

A Grandfather's Love

So around this time of year thirteen years ago, my granny, my mama, and I were burying my grandfather, Robert James Dawson, Jr. I loved that man with ALL my heart and then some. Forget a daddy's girl, I was a granddaddy's girl. I remember everything he ever said to me as well as everything he ever did for me. My granddad and I used to do the weirdest things...one thing was that we'd sit there and smell each other's feet and "pass out" from how bad they "stank" lol. When my granddad couldn't work anymore, I stayed home with him while my mama and granny worked. We used to watch tv, build forts, and just go roam around the city. He's the one who spoiled me to the point where I am today. I could get away with murder if it were up to him. Whenever my mom or grandma would spray perfume, he'd complain about it bothering his allergies, but I could sprays tons and tons of it and it wouldn't phase him.
Even when I was a newborn baby, he spoiled me by not letting anyone touch me but him. I remember one specific day my granddaddy had to run some errands so he couldn't watch me while my mom and grandma worked. That day, I stayed with my aunt and cousins. When my mom and granny got off work, they came to pick me up, but my granddad did too. I had to pick who I would ride home with...of course I chose my granddaddy. I was hungry so we went to McDonald's to get something to eat. I got the Happy Meal and my favorite, the Happy Meal toy...the only thing was that I wanted the toy from Burger King too. My granddad drove to Burger King and ordered the kids' meal for himself just so I could have that toy along with the toy from McDonald's. That was the day I truly fell in love with that man.
Then one day, my worst nightmare happened. I woke up that morning the same as always and got ready for school. Everyday before I left, I would go in my grandparents' bedroom and give my granddaddy a hug and kiss and tell him I would see him when I came back from school. This particular morning as I was going to do so, I noticed that my granddad was still asleep. I started to wake him, but my mom stopped me and told me to let him rest because he had been so tired lately (Years later, I realized that this was a good thing). I went to school, and everything was just a normal day in Kindergarten until my mama came and checked me out of school. She then told me that my granddad had passed away. To this day, I still can't remember what was going through my head or how I responded; I believe I started to cry though.
I remember going to the hospital and sitting in the family room with all my family members. I can still see the expression on my grandma's face to this day. She was just sitting in a chair with her hand under her chin just staring off into space with glossy red eyes. I can still hear the voice of my aunt calling the rest of my relatives telling them "Dee just passed." I can still feel my mother's arms wrapped around my body as I lay my head on her shoulder. I can still feel her lift me up, look me in the eyes, and ask me "You know granddaddy's not gonna be with us anymore?" And I can still feel myself nod my head and lay my head back on her shoulder just to start back crying.
Thinking back on the end of March 1998, I can truly say that I first experienced pain, hurt, sorrow, and death. Even as I'm writing this now, I can still feel all thoe emotions coming back. My granddad was my best friend at the time...he was more like a father than my own father. Everything I do, I do to make him proud because I know he's looking down on me smiling and praising my great accomplishments. March 1998 changed my life forever and I will never forget the details of that tragic day. I loved my granddaddy; always have, always will. He will forever be in my heart and will always be my first best friend. That was the first man I've ever loved because he was the first man to love me..

R.I.P. Robert "Dee" James Dawson, Jr.
I love you dearly and you will FOREVER be in my heart.
Love your angel, CeCe

"Julez for Japan" T-Shirts

Solange Knowles' son and Beyonce's nephew Julez has designed a t-shirt to support those affected by the earthquake and tsunami that took place in Japan weeks ago. It is said that the shirts will go on sale soon and all the proceeds will be given to the Peace Winds organization. This is such a great thing for such a young child to do. He definitely has a creative mind, a good heart, and a flyy nature. Props to Julez for doing this and props to Solange for allowing her son to do this.

Chris Brown's "F.A.M.E." Drops Today!

Chris Brown's fourth studio album, F.A.M.E. (Forgiving All My Enemies or Fans Are My Everything), is dropping today!! From what I've heard via Chris' twitter and other blogs, Breezy has been doing his thing with this album! Singles from this album so far include: Yeah 3x and Look At Me Now. Breezy has been making major moves and coming back harder than ever after the 2009 incident with his ex-girlfriend Rihanna. Though he isn't perfect, he's one hell of a guy, in my opinion, and this album is gonna be great. I haven't had a chance to listen yet, but some of my friends who have said the album is HOTT! I've supported Chris since he first came out, so I definitely gotta make sure to go out and get my copy! Tracklisting below:

I LOVE This Pic!

I LOVE Chris Brown! I know he's had his issues in the past, but everyone deserves a second chance. He's a great singer, dancer, and all-around performer. I've been rocking with him since day one and will always be a supporter of his. Make sure you support him too by buying his upcoming album, F.A.M.E. I guarantee you it's a banger! Plus, I bet the pics inside are something serious! I mean, look how sexy the one above is. ;)

D&G + One of My Favorite Models = #Winning

Above is a picture of one of my FAVORITE current models, Chanel Iman. This is a dress she rocked during the Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2007 Fashion Show. I thought this picture was soo beautiful because Chanel herself is such a beautiful girl. At just age 20, Chanel has been modeling for 7 years and has had good success so far. In 2007, she appeared on the cover of Vogue as one of the world's next top supermodels. In 2009, she walked in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. And in 2010, she became a Victoria's Secret Angel and began being featured in various VS ad campaigns. Chanel is definitely a force to be reckoned with, so be out on the look for her because she is popping up everywhere!

DreamGirl of the Week

This week's DreamGirl of the Week is none other than Ciara. Ciara hit the scene back in 2004 with her hit single "Goodies." She has gone on to release other singles such as "1, 2 Step," "Oh," "Get Up," "Promise," "Love & Sex & Magic," "Ride," and "Gimme Dat." Over the years, Ciara's style has developed from the cool chick next door to straight up fashionista. She has REALLY stepped her fashion game up and always rocks some of the hottest clothes. Plus, she has a WONDERFUL name ;)

Lil Wayne finally releases the video for his latest single "6 Foot 7 Foot" featuring Cory Gunz and produced by Hype Williams. The video is based on the hit movie "Inception." New Burberry Wear

This is the new Burberry Prorsum Studded Trench Jacket! This jacket is soo badd. According to one of my favorite sites, Stuff Fly People Like, it will cost you $3, 595, but it DEFINITELY looks worth it. Paired with some killer heels (preferably those Christian Louboutin Clou Noeud Spike Sandals) and a pair of black leggings or jeggings, this jacket would make the flyest outfit! If I had the money to be balling like that, this jacket would be MINE!

Snoop Dogg & Game "Purp & Yellow"

Rappers Snoop Dogg and Game have come out with a video for the Lakers fans titled "Purp & Yellow (LA Leakers Skeetox Remix)." The video features cameos from a few of the Lakers players - Ron Artest, Matt Barnes, and Shannon Brown, to name a few. If you're a Lakers fan, you'll definitely love this song just because it's repping the team. I have a feeling this is gonna play out pretty well this basketball season...

Kanye Releases "All of the Lights" Video

So Kanye has finally dropped the video for his new single "All of the Lights" featuring everybody and they mama 'nem. Sadly, the video is not as great as we all thought it would be. On the bright side, the visuals are pretty nice - there's a lot of the strobe light type thing going on which makes you think you're at a rave - and Kanye and Rihanna look good (although she was the only featured artist in the video besides Kid Cudi). I kinda like the video, but I think it could've been better and included EVERYONE who contributed to the song...or at least most of them. But see for yourself...leave a comment, and let me know what's up.

DreamGirl of the Week

This week, the DreamGirl is none other than Victoria Beckham. You may know her as Posh Spice of the Spice Girls. She is also married to (sexy) soccer player David Beckham. I have always thought Vic Beck was pretty and a great fashionista because her clothes are always on point. I haven't seen her out and about in a while because she is most likely focusing on her family, but hopefully she'll be back at it again.

Beyonce's Louboutins are HOTT!

While I was browsing one of my favorite blogs, Necole Bitchie, I saw a post of Beyonce wearing some BADD Christian Louboutin pumps! The turquoise-like color shoes are gorgeous and of course, Bey was wearing them well. Paired with a simple black dress, the shoes definitely stole the show and Beyonce nailed the look perfectly!

Unfortunately, I was unable to find them online somewhere, but if I do, I will definitely be revising this post and giving you all the links.

My Ideal Valentine

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!! Surprisingly, this is my first year not having a Valentine, so I really don't know what to do with myself. My friend said I was gonna break down, but I'm to much of a "G" for that ;) lol. Anywho, since I don't have a Valentine, I'm just gonna share with you guys what my ideal Valentine's Day would be like.

I'd wake up on Valentine's Day morning to a phonecall from my sweetie wishing me a "Happy Valentine's Day" and telling me that there are a lot of good things in store. I would proceed to get ready and head to class. As I enter into my first class and have been sitting for a while, a delivery man would come in to deliver me a bouqet of a dozen multicolor roses with a note that read "This is only the beginning...be looking for more. I love you." As I continue on through my day, my sweetie would keep surprising me with a new gift in each class. At the next class I would receive a huge teddy bear with a gorgeous necklace around its neck. At the end of my last class, as I am walking out, I would be greeted by a delivery man with a handful of jumbo balloons who is escorting me out of the building. When I get outside, a limo with a chaffeur will be waiting for me. Inside the limo is decked out with all types of balloons and Valentine's decor and on the mini bar is a note that reads "I'm not done yet, go have a little fun splurging at the mall. Make sure to pick up a nice dress, a nice pair of shoes, and stunning jewelry for later on tonight. I love you." I would go to the mall and pick out all the stuff I wanted (all at my sweetie's expense of course) and then head back to the limo. When I get back in the limo there is another note that reads "I've booked us a hotel, go there and get ready for tonight. Meet me in the hotel lobby at 6:30 p.m., we have reservations for 7:00. It's gonna be great. I love you." As the limo pulls up to the hotel, I notice that we are at a 5-star hotel. When I walk into the hotel, I am immediately greeted by the staff who help me carry my things up to the penthouse suite. They treat me like royalty. While waiting for the time to pass by, I take a quick nap then get up to start getting ready. I put on my gorgeous dress, shoes, and jewelry, and splather on some of my best smelling perfume. When I walk down to the lobby, it is exactly 6:30 and the chaffeur greets me and escorts me outside the limo. As I slide into the limo, I am hoping to see my sweetie, but instead I am greeted with yet another note that reads "Sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride. Don't worry, it won't be much longer until we see each other." This excites me a little more. When the limo finally stops, we are at a 5-star restaurant. This time, instead of the chaffeur opening my door, I am finally greeted by my love who hugs and kisses me, then escorts me into the restaurant. When we get inside, we are seated in the best seating area available and enjoy a delectable full-course meal. After the meal, we get back into the limo and are driven to a spot where we can sit and watch the stars and talk all night longs. After hours of talking and star gazing, my love and I head back to the hotel where we spend the night in each other's arms...
*sigh* If only, if only...

"Mooz-Lum"

This movie looks great! It stars Evan Ross, Nia Long, Roger Guenveur Smith, and others. Mooz-Lum is about the struggles of a Muslim family in the United States following the 9/11 attacks. Judging by the trailer, the movie looks like it will give everyone of all cultures a great insight on how the Muslim community was affected by the 9/11 attacks.

Mooz-Lum hits theaters tomorrow, February 11th. I definitely wanna see this. Will you be seeing it too?

Anderson Cooper Attacked in Egypt

Ok, so if you guys didn't know, I am infatuated with Anderson Cooper! I think he is gorgeous and an amazing anchor/reporter; he's my favorite! But anywho, while he was over in Cairo, Egypt covering the current chaos happening over there, he and his crew were attacked by some of the Egyptian protesters and his camera crew caught it on camera. To even look at the video has saddened my heart, but luckily Anderson is fine. *whew!* Below is the video of him being attacked (it's kind of hard to follow because of all the movement, but you'll get it):

Be carefule over there Anderson!

Why I've Been Slacking on Posting...

I joined Tumblr! Here's the link:  http://thediariesofme.tumblr.com/. I had shut this site down, closed the account and everything, but now I'm back at it. I've decided to blog on both here and Tumblr and I'm gonna try and not neglect this site. So stay tuned for more :)
